Serial criminals have a particular territory that they define, just like any animal. They focus their hunting in a region often with a particular pattern, and criminal psychologist David Canter is an expert at analyzing their behavior and predicting where they may go or where they may have been in the past. Professor Canter describes the complexities of catching a human predator in three cases. The first case occurred in Las Vegas and centers around a teenager who was arrested committing a crime spree that involved rape, assault, murder and robbery.

The second case occurred in Canada and centers on 36 year old Garret Young who abducted prostitutes and then beat and raped them and left them for dead in a rural area. The third case occurred in Bath, England and focuses on the Batman Rapist who committed the crime at least 14 different times. David Canter is one of the world’s experts in criminal geographic profiling and has authored numerous books on the subject including Mapping Murder: The Secrets of Geographic Profiling (2003). This is a part of the series Mapping Murder: Investigative Psychology Meets Geographical Profiling. (23 minutes)
