"...the Ian Robert's video was excellent. I'm an adjunct art instructor at... and I was impressed with his ability to simplify the process. It is almost identical to my approach to teaching. I did learn more effective ways for carrying and using materials from the video. I don't often paint outdoors but would like to do so more often.
I've liked Silverman since I first saw his book on oil, pastel and watercolor back in the early 80's as a kid. I like his unconventional and uninhibited approach to painting. Pure Watercolorists probably cringe at his approach, which makes me laugh. I had an instructor once who berated me for using mixed media with watercolor. For shame! And the way he paints in oils is just as unconventional.
...I might consider using them as a teaching aid if and when I have classes in those subjects. I primarily teach foundation drawing skills and figure drawing, but that will change overtime.
I have shown snippets of films from... videos to my students (obviously you can't watch the whole videos, they take up two hours of class.) and find it inspires them... The Library at my school has started purchasing DVD's because of the reaction to my using them as a teaching aid and some of the students have started purchasing the DVD's themselves.
So I am definitely enjoying the DVD's and find it a wonderful way to discover more about these wonderful artists and their unique approaches and techniques.
