Product Description:
Inside Chicago's Gang War (Enhanced DVD) describes the gang violence in Chicago and the situation that it has created. There was a minimum of 419 people murdered within 12 neighborhoods in the city of Chicago in 2012 alone, which is actually a higher number than all of the United States troops that were killed in Afghanistan in that same time period. The cause for this is gangs in Chicago and their turf wars. This documentary is essentially a multi-segment ABC News program, in which Diane Sawyer, Cynthia McFadden, and the crews of World News and Nightline have gotten together to gain more insight into the situation. They have gathered 38 members of rival gangs in Chicago in one room for this video, and they have them talk about the slaughter, as well as potential ways of ending it. The program also goes into all sorts of initiatives that are in place and were put together to raise awareness of the violence that is going on and what can be done to stop it. Some of these initiatives are focused on helping troubled young people find meaningful activities that they can engage in that can fill their time in productive ways that keep them away from violence. The broadcast took place on October 18 and 19 of 2012 and had the end goal of looking into the question of how many young people in Chicago who are a part of these gangs are willing to make a change and help end the violence that has been plaguing the city for such a long time now.

The run time is 26 minutes, and the copyright date is 2012.

Violence in some of America’s largest cities is a major issue that continues to be a controversial topic when it comes to gun control and the best methods to combat it. In 2012, a minimum of 419 people were killed in over a dozen different neighborhoods in Chicago. That was a higher number than the number of all U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan during the same period.

The cause of this extensive violence was gangs fighting over turf. In this ABC News program Diane Sawyer, Cynthia McFadden, and the crews of World News and Nightline collaborate with an unprecedented meeting. They gather 38 members of rival Chicago gangs in one room and talk openly about the murder and discuss ways in which it could stop.

The program also discusses potential options for raising anti-violence awareness and helping young people find meaning in their lives so that they can fill their time with productive activities and avoid the lure of gangs. Will the gang members of Chicago step up and make the changes necessary to improve their communities and help their fellow young community members?
