Product Description:

This Birch Flat File comes in five different sizes that offer three, five, or eight drawers. Additional options such as a top bookshelf and steel drawer guides make this piece incredibly versatile. The drawers make for a perfect storage space for home studio or office supplies and can be easily labelled to make organization a breeze.

The choice of birch wood provides a sense of elegance without reaching into the extravagant, and make this piece the perfect choice for the price conscious purchaser. The flat file can be delivered unfinished so you can paint it yourself, or delivered in the wood's natural color, lacquered and sealed to prevent wear and tear.

These flat file are modular; so they can be configured in any combination of 3 and 5 drawer units that you want. Bookshelf and vertical file units are the same overall size as the 5-drawer units. So they can be used in the same way.

Can the bookshelf stack underneath the flies or only on top?

The Bookshelf can be used as the bottom unit in the stack. The more important factor to consider is the total weight of each unit. For stability reasons, as with any tall stack of modular assemblies, you don’t want to make it top-heavy. We recommend the heavier units to be assembled at the bottom of the set. What you plan on storing in the drawer cabinet or bookshelf could greatly affect which unit will be the heavier one.
Another factor to consider is overall height. For example, the overall height of a set with three 5-drawer units (15 file drawers) with a cap and a base will be nearly 54 inches themselves. That means in any set taller than that, the contents of the top drawers become hard to see and access for the average person.

The Bookshelf is built in an open top design similar to the flat file cabinets (does not have a cap). This modular design allows the bookshelf to be staked anywhere in the set, be it at the bottom, middle, or top. You can think of the Base as the foundation of the set (at the very bottom) and the Cap as the roof of the set (at the very top).

Cap covers top drawer, and the base makes the bottom drawere more accessible. [Except for the smallest size, 12"x18", which does not need or include a cap & base.] Internal drawer depth is 1-7/8 inches.

Steel Drawer Guides (SDG) option – Each drawer is fitted with a set of Steel Ball Bearing guides. These plan files are 1” wider than the standard version to accommodate the additional space needed for these guides.
Steel drawer guides extend only up to 28".
Just choose that option at the bottom of the radio-button options (Additional OPTION #3: add Steel Drawer Guides to size & drawer number #-SDG)

Please note: If choosing the steel drawer guide, drawers will only open a maximum of 28". (You can place full size sheets into that opening, however, the drawers only open up to 28 inches.
Reg. drawers (when not choosing the steel drawer guides) open fully.

Re: Finishing Option:
Unfinished is the general Standard - most take this Birch unfinished, leave it so with the natural wood, or stain or paint it themselves.
If choosing the Finished option, it retains the natural color of the birch but has a sealer & lacquer applied. Please note that this would then become a custom order and there would be no cancellation or returns allowed once the order has started production.
