Power: Dan Cruickshank’s Adventures in Architecture (Enhanced DVD)
The program exposes the fanciful notions of kings, dictators, warriors and sultans due to Dan Cruikshank attempts to evaluate architecture as a symbol of worldly glory and power. Dan makes a journey to Nicolae Ceausescu's palace in Romania, a gigantic structure constructed by the last tyrant autocrat of the 20th century. He also visits Marqab Castle in Syria which the Crusaders built in order to dominate the region between Asia Minor and the Holy Land; an impressive plantation house located in New Orleans which stands as a complete opposite to the slave cabins located nearby.
This program also shows Dan making a journey to Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, a palace inscribed in the pages of history for two reasons. It was a place where women were treated as slaves but they also had the opportunity to give rise to the future emperor.
