Television Around the World: Russia (Enhanced DVD)
The variety of programming on Russian TV is a reflection both of the country's past and the country's present. A channel that exclusively shows TV shows and movie from the country during the Soviet era is extremely popular. It does not, however, cover the end of the U.S.S.R. because the channel has military ties. Other channels do take a less censored approach to their programming, and they feature many current affairs shows that feature controversial topics. Some channels are run by the state and must have approval from the government for all of its programming while other channels are run independently. Political coverage is common programming as are comedy shows and crime programs.
