Alvin Watercolors Lapis Lazuli Genuin is made of only the most upscale and fine material. Lapis Lazuli provides strength in the tint of blue (due to the irregular shaping in the pigment particles), is known for its three-dimensional appearance (due to its semi-transparency), and has also been symbolized mystically as well. Lapis Lazuli is a mix of subtle blue-grey with a touch of golden pyrite -- which gives Lapis Lazuli the slight shimmer and its pigment is not synthetic. Lapis Lazuli is mined from stones in South America and is also known for its use in historical paintings --including those of the master artist, Leonardo Da Vinci. The name lazurite, meaning “blue rock” is derived from the Arabic term, “lazaward” meaning “heaven”.
