Product Description:
Isamu Noguchi: Stones and Paper Video (VHS/DVD). This film chronicles the unusual life and career of multi media artist and landscape architect, Isamu Noguchi. Born to Japanese poet Yone Noguchi and Leonie Gilmour, American writer. Holding dual citizenship, Isamu grew up in American and Japan and studied sculpture in Paris with Constantin Brancusi. Noguchi work in sculpture blend the Eastern Zen gardens with the modernism movement spearheaded in sculpture by his mentor. From portrait busts of people like Buckminster Fuller and Martha Graham, to a fountain built of automobile parts, to creating the costumes for theater productions, to his Akari light sculptures, to his sleek-lined Noguchi table which is still a modernist icon. The New York Times called him "a versatile and prolific sculptor " This is a seminal film for anyone who wants to explore working a variety of different styles and mediums. (56 minutes.)
