Product Description:
This 31-minute educational video offers several intriguing segments. All spotlight the two square panels Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painted for his high-kicking friend, the celebrated Cancan dancer known as La Goulue, to decorate her carnival booth. The highest paid entertainer of her day, La Goulue was one of Lautrec's favorite subjects. The two panels, each measuring 3 meters by 3 meters, are the largest compositions ever painted by Lautrec. The first is entitled "Dancing at the Moulin Rouge" and invokes elements of the famous Belle Epoque Montmartre dance hall. The second, called "The Moorish Dance," depicts characters from Lautrec's past and elements of La Goulue's life in 1895. Renowned art experts discuss the composition and history of both panels. Other segments in the video show various scenes from the Moulin Rouge and provide other experts' considered reflections on the lives of La Goulue (also known as the Queen of Montmartre) and Paris' premier poster artist, Toulouse-Lautrec.
