Product Description:
Gustave Courbet, a French painter initiated the Realism movement. Courbet horrified and shocked the public with his realistic painting of an ordinary burial scene. Courbet was able to use a deceivingly innocent appearance that with further study and analysis presents so many subtleties and surprises as seen in the clothing of two men from the original revolution. Courbet through his subtleties and realism made a large statement regarding the political revolution of 1848. Many critics compare Courbet's painting to similar work by Goya. His characters although appear flat the painting in whole follows a very geometric pattern. A prelude to the cubism movement. This video being in French is excellent for the student of the French language. It is an extremely interesting study in art, history presented in French to aide the student to understand pronunciation, and sentence structures of the French language.
