Product Description:
The weather is a topic of interest everywhere in the world. This 60-minute video contains 48 clips of interesting weather to show you a wide range of atmospheric conditions. Everything from meteorology to pollution and the wide range of climates in the world are covered in this fascinating look at the Earth's weather. Each clip runs from 30 seconds in length to 2 minutes. Some clips are film footage while others are animations of various weather phenomenon. Through this film, you will learn about the atmosphere of the Earth and its complex makeup. Find out about atmospheric pressure and the air molecules move in different temperatures. The way air masses move and the way different pressure zones cause the wind to move in circular patterns is also covered. You will also learn about precipitation and how water moves in various forms throughout the planet and influences the weather.

Customer Reviews

People are fascinated by the weather all over the world. This collection of video clips includes high quality film footage of the Earth’s atmosphere. Topics that are covered include meteorology, the environment, pollution, climates, and more. 48 video clips are included and they range from 30 seconds to 2 minutes each. Both animations and film footage are included. (60 minutes)

Segments in this video include:
  • Earth’s Atmosphere – Introduction – A thin gaseous layer over the earth protects it from solar radiation and provides us with the air that we breath. Air weighs differently depending on the temperature and altitude, and these variations in weight create air movements.
  • The Atmosphere – At the 15 kilometers closest to the ground, air is concentrated. Most of air is composed of oxygen and nitrogen along with other gases such as carbon dioxide and argon. Most weather phenomena occurs in the troposphere.
  • Atmospheric Pressure – Atmospheric pressure can be measured with a barometer and it depends on temperature and altitude. The colder that air is, the more slowly that air molecules move.
  • The Movement of Air Masses – Air masses have large volumes with particular humidity and temperature characteristics. Air masses don’t mix; instead they push against each other across a line called a front. Different fronts mixing together cause different types of weather. Fronts directly influence the weather over the regions where they pass.
  • Air moves from high pressure to lower pressure zones. Winds move in a circular motion around low pressure zones as a result of the Coriolis force. Winds in local areas are not static and they are influenced by geographic factors.
  • Precipitation – Water is constantly being transformed and moving, and it is an essential part of Earth’s atmosphere. It carries a large amount of energy around the planet and is the cause for some of the most incredible weather.
